Air-Brushed (UV-Free) Tanning
Airbrush tanning is a simple procedure applied with the artistry of airbrushing, resulting in a deep golden tan without ultra-violet rays; and is especially suited for those individuals who cannot tan due to lack of pigmentation in the skin, or for health reasons.  This procedure, and the products used, are completely safe and approved by the FDA.  This process may be used during pregnancy, although we recommend you consult with your physician.

Frequently Asked Questions...

Where does DHA come from and is it safe:
The tanning properties of Dihydroxy-acetone (DHA) were discovered in the 1950's.  DHA is a self tanning agent that is designed to provide a tanned appearance without UV exposure.  DHA was first used as an active ingredient during research on the treatment of diabetics.  In 1957 the tanning properties of DHA were discovered in a children's hospital where it was being administered orally as a treatment of a childhood glycogen storage disease.  DHA is a food grade product and is approved for ingestion by the FDA.  In fact, the largest user of DHA in the world is the health supplement industry, and is found in many weight loss products.  DHA has been approved for topical application, and has been a common ingredient in most sunless tanning lotions for many years.
How does it work?
It's a 3-step process.  Step-1 prepares the skin to accept the DHA by using a special glycolic acid exfoliating shower gel.  Step-2 is the airbrush DHA application.  This solution reacts with the amino acids found naturally on the skin's epidermal layer creating a tanning effect of the skin.  Step-3 extends the tan by moisturizing with the recommended tan extending lotion.  This lotion contains 1-1/2% DHA to enhance the color and prolong the results.
How long does it last?
The color will last an average of 7-10 days.  The color fades with the shedding of the skin cells, and results vary greatly with each skin type.  Again, individual results may be enhanced with the use of the special tan extending lotion.
When will I see results?
The results are immediate.  Our sunless solution contains a bronzer.  This bronzer allows us to apply the DHA evenly on the body, and also gives you an 'instant tan'.  The tan begins to develop in 2-4 hours and continues to darken for up to 12 hours after application.
How dark will I be?
Depending on the natural or existing color of your skin, the results vary with each person.  The intensity of color also varies with each individual, as the amino acids in a person's skin vary from one to another.
Will I be orange?
The results have been exceptional!  We have airbrushed hundreds of clients for weddings, prom, homecoming, senior and family pictures, reunions, vacations, and 'just because'....

Instructions for Airbrush Tanning

To ensure your best tan, we recommend following these instructions:

  1. Before your appointment:  Shower with the exfoliating shower gel.  No moisturizers, no deodorant, no make-up.  If you cannot shower directly before your airbrush session we offer an exfoliating towelette to freshen up with.  Do not use soap or soap products.
  2. Airbrush Appointment:  Wear dark colored or old underclothing or bathing suit.  Tops are optional for no tan lines, but...bottoms are required.
  3. Wear home:  Loose clothing is best for the first couple of hours (bras and jeans are not recommended).  If it is raining, bring an umbrella.
  4. First 8-12 hours:  Stay cool and dry.  Perspiration and tears can ruin your tan.  Remember - you have been sprayed with a bronzer.  This is similar to makeup all over your body.  Be careful where you sit, lay, or lean against.  If the bronzer collects in creases (around the neck, eyelids, elbows) rub gently with your fingertip to blend, then wipe your hands.
  5. Maintenance:  Wait 8-12 hours before showering after your airbrush session.  Showering with a pH balanced shower gel is recommended.  Do Not Use Soap or Soap Products.  Shower gently and pat dry with your towel.  Keep your skin moisturized.  Using the tan extending moisturizer after every shower is recommended until your tan has faded, or longer, if desired.
  6. Next appointment:  It is recommended to wait until your color has completely faded before being airbrushed again.  This will eliminate DHA build-up on the skin causing 'dirty' or dark patches.  Usually 2 weeks is average time between sessions.
